Beehive Beardettes

Utah has its own ladies beard and moustache club.   Now you may say to yourself that makes no sense.  "How does a lady grow facial hair?"   Well the answer is simple, they don't grow they sew.

These girls create their own beards to wear out in public, at meetings, and competitions.  "Wait, what, competitions?"   That is correct, competitions.   You see these competitions are usually the same night as the men and have their own categories.    They also are on their own night as down in Vegas at Nationals this year.

If your interested in more information or looking to join then follow them over on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/483363078383372/

Weekend Campout of the Bearded Weirdos. 08/24-08/26

This weekend was the first campout for the Utah Beardsman Alliance and very successful. We all started rolling in to the East Canyon State Park around 8 in the evening.   I was the first to arrive.   One of our campsites was temporarily taken over but they eventually left.   There was a total of 12 people that came out to enjoy our festivities.

Friday evening was spent getting everything setup and helping each other.   After the work was done a late dinner of hot link dogs and some hobo dinners were cooked in the fire.   Drank some home brew and stayed up and talked till 12:30.

Saturday was a long and very fun day.   It first started of with a very large breakfast consisting of sausage, bacon, eggs, and pancakes.    After we ate and cleaned up some of the group went separate ways to do their own things.  Half stayed near camp playing on the beach and the rest went to ride wave runners and swim.

Saturday evening was a party.   We all got back together at one campsite and grilled up a mean dinner.   We did some pork ribs, pork loin, corn on the cob,  various salads, rolls, chip, cookies, and cobbler.    We ate an till we couldn't eat anymore and still had food left over.   After all the eating we held our meeting and some got their drink on.

Sunday was once again another day of a good breakfast.    After we all ate it was time to breakdown camp and part ways.   The nice thing about this trip is we had seen each other more than the usual couple of hours once a month.

Facial Hair Care Tips.

This here is a section for what kind of products we use on our beards to moustache wax brands. There has been questions posted about that kind of stuff here on our page and on other beard pages. Feel free to start throwing out questions or tips.
Moustache waxes I have used. Clubman which is very sticky and feels like you forgot to wash out your 'stache. Upside to it is that is readily available and quick to comb in. Firehouse dark is a heavy wax that has to be heated up before use and feels like it tries to pull on the hairs. Upside to it is that you don't have to reapply it if you want to keep your 'stache styled for a couple days, good hold, and pleasant smell. My current is from Reverend Harrington. The Xtra hold has a nice lavendar smell, easily applied, and holds well. The Vicars blend is a stronger hold than the Xtra. It smells kind of woody, easily applied, and great hold. Down side may be the scent to some. On the Reverend site he says he will personalize it to the scent you want.
For beard care I am using Argan oil which helps softens the hairs and moisturizes my skin. I also use the shampoo and styling cream. These are readily available at Sally's beauty.

Beards for Breasts Photoshoot.

On July 19, 2012 bearded ladies were spotted at Liberty Park.    5 bearded men transformed into women.  This was all done for in the name of charity.   We also had a Strong Man and Carnival Barker.

We had a few looks and some curious people came up and asked us what we were doing.  Colin Wolf from City Weekly was kind enough to come out and do a story.   Former MTV makeup artist and Mary Kay senior sales director  Pam Lancaster and Mary Kay rep Julee Butler both came out and offered their time and makeup.  Our Photographer Alicia Woodward also volunteered her skills.

Storm clouds were threatening to rain us out but only provided a few drops.   The park was quiet for the most part and the carnival rides had shut down for the night.   It was now time for the sideshow to begin.

Salt Lake Beard Competition

Beard Love
On April 22, 2012 members of the Utah Beardsman Alliance participated in our first beard competition.  It was held at the Bourbon House in downtown Salt Lake.  As a club we used this opportunity to try and recruit more members to our group.  City Weekly was there doing there media coverage.

The competition was broken down into five categories.  Contestants were allowed to participate in more than one category.    Each category had a big group of contestants but went very smooth and quick.

The whole night was a big fellowship or brotherhood of beards.   We met lots of cool people and immediately picked up new members.

Excerpt of a letter written to our members following the competition:

"My fellow Beardies and Beardettes,
I am on a new high after attending last nights competition. I met many nice people that came together for something we share in common. I don't know how many times I did my sales pitch to sell our club, but it is paying off. Those that attended also worked hard in selling the Beardsman.
Over the last 24 hours we have seen growth. I'm hoping over the next month leading into our next meeting that people remember our club and look to join. If you know anyone that may be interested in being a part of us invite them to a meeting, club outing, or add them to our page.
We are a dues free club. Eventually we will be a self sustaining club with the sale of merchandise and various fundraisers for ourselves with portions going to a charity. Donations are always welcome.
I want to welcome our new members and thank our current members for sticking around. Without you this would not exist. Utah would be the barren wasteland of lost beards. We are an oasis of found beards."

For those that are interested in being involved with a competition or wanting more information leaves us a comment or visit us on Facebook or E-mail.
